About us:

Owini is a subsidiary of the Mitrelli Group with representations in several countries in Africa. Owini designs and implements sustainable water and wastewater solutions in the residential, agricultural, and industrial sectors. Our projects are research-based, tailor-made, and integrate cutting-edge technologies by collaborating with various strategic partners from the world's leading companies in water technologies, desalination, irrigation, and wastewater treatment.

The Opportunity:

The last few years have seen exciting growth across our Water sector teams – a trend that we expect to continue as we successfully secure positions working with our varied client base across Angola and Ivory Coast. "The Water for All - Côte d'Ivoire project aims to ensure sustainable access to potable water, aligning with the government's goal of achieving 100% coverage by 2030. The current contract covers Phase 1, which involves the installation of 95 complete hydraulic systems across sub-prefectures, benefiting approximately 665,000 people.

The project scope includes surveying, design, supervision, supply of materials, drilling, and civil works. The groundwater systems will have boreholes up to 120m deep, powered by the national grid, and a distribution network with 30,000m of PVC piping. The contract, valued at €150 million, is expected to be completed within 36 months."

In this role you´ll play the role of Project Director and lead this three-year contract in Ivory Coast. You will develop a clear understanding of the broader context of our client organisations, the various changes being undertaken beyond the project and align the project approach, impact and timing with a focus on outcome driven decision making. You´ll provide leadership, direction, guidance, constructive challenge and coaching to Project Managers and the broader project team in relation to project approach, activities, risks, issues and general management, whilst fostering an environment where team members can develop.

About You:

You are a seasoned project leader with a proven track record in delivering major infrastructure projects within the water sector. You will hold qualifications in engineering or project management with a deep understanding of large and complex construction issues. 

You possess strong leadership abilities, with the ability to inspire others to perform at their highest level. You are passionate about promoting and advocating project management best practice, with a track record of developing innovative new services and driving efficient methods. Finally, you possess strong commercial acumen in ensuring short- and long-term financial performance objectives are achieved.

For this specific opportunity you should have experience within project leadership roles within the Water sector and be a French and English speaker.

Key responsibilities will include: 

  • Responsible for all the project execution in the country.
  • Managing and supervising the PM teams and experts in the construction of the project in accordance with specifications ensuring the quality and execution in the time and budget.
  • To perform budget and time control in accordance with the project requirements and stakeholder expectations.
  • Monitor and control the project to be aligned with the overall strategic goals and objectives of the organization including meetings with Clients and contractors relating to contracts and claims.
  • To align and promote ongoing changes to a project if it appears not proceeding on schedule or is producing unsatisfactory results by developing an alternate course of action.
  • Makes presentations to investors, business partners and company executives concerning different phases of a project.
  • Coordinate and oversees the needed activities for all ’chain’ process: Purchase, Logistics and Site Works.
  • Regularly updates clients, executives, and other stakeholders with reports on the progress and performance of projects (monthly Progress Meetings with Contractors and the top management).
  • Follow all regulations related to projects and ensure they’re in compliance.
  • Developing moderator guides and designing surveys.



Requirements

  • Bsc Degree in Civil Engineering or MSc/MBA degree (advantage). PMP certification preferred.
  • Minimum 10 years’ experience as a Project Director in a global company for Construction Projects (Buildings or Infrastructure) – (contractor position is an advantage, Water Sector).
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in managing large projects and multicultural teams including working experience in Africa. (Francophone Countries).
  • Extensive experience in large scale programmes of construction delivery.
  • Experience in the water / wastewater treatment industry.
  • Experienced in management of and monitoring of Project Programmes.
  • Excellent oral and written communicator with the ability to work in close partnership with clients and end users.
  • Must be delivery driven with the ability to set targets.
  • Able to manage and motivate multi-disciplinary teams to deliver to time, cost and quality objectives.
  • Strategic, operational, technical and management skills Commercially astute. 
  • Due to the nature of the project we prefer to see candidates with prior knowledge and experience of the complexity of the Ivory Coast/Senegal construction and infrastructure market.
  • Deep understanding of legal and industry standards.
  • Using specialized project management software.
  • English and French are a must. (spoken & written)
  • Must have previous experience in Franchophone Africa.
