Governor Mara Quiosa Visits Kwanza District to Review Key Healthcare and Water Infrastructure Projects

Angola’s healthcare sector is undergoing a transformative phase, with significant improvements aimed at addressing the country’s healthcare needs. A key component of this strategy is the new Kwanza Sul General Hospital, one of five state-of-the-art facilities designed by Promed International AG, a subsidiary of the Mitrelli Group. Recently, Kwanza Sul’s newly appointed Governor, Mara Quiosa, visited the hospital facilities and the accompanying water infrastructure, demonstrating her commitment to advancing these critical projects in alignment with Angola’s broader healthcare improvement agenda. From the perspective of water solutions, the Kwanza Sul General Hospital is a model for sustainable infrastructure development.

The hospital’s success is supported by the reliable water infrastructure system established by Mitrelli’s water sector, which is vital for maintaining the facility’s operations and contributing to the well-being of the surrounding community.

The water system includes a 10-kilometer water supply pipeline connected to the Alto Chingo reservoir. This pipeline guarantees a reliable and steady water supply to the hospital, crucial for maintaining high standards of healthcare services. Additionally, this infrastructure is pivotal for supporting the community’s water needs, contributing to a significant improvement in the quality of life for local residents.

One of the standout features of this project is the advanced Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) installed at the site. This facility is designed to treat up to 150 m³/day of wastewater using cutting-edge infiltration trench solutions. These advanced technologies ensure that the effluent produced is of high quality, making it safe for discharge or potential reuse. The system not only adheres to stringent environmental standards but also helps minimize the impact on the surrounding ecosystem, fostering lasting sustainability in the region.

The wastewater treatment process is further enhanced by the inclusion of a state-of-the-art Anaerobic Baffled Reactor (ABR). This technology utilizes anaerobic microorganisms to break down organic matter in sewage, producing biogas as a byproduct. The ABR system is highly efficient in removing organic pollutants from wastewater, offering a cost-effective and environmentally friendly alternative to traditional aerobic treatments.

Governor Mara Quiosa’s visit to the Kwanza Sul General Hospital and the associated water infrastructure projects underscores the Angolan government’s dedication to improving healthcare and public infrastructure. Her visit highlights the importance of these projects in achieving the government’s mission of enhancing healthcare services and ensuring environmental sustainability.

The synergy between Owini, Promed, Yapama, Kora, New Cognito, and Ossi Yeto has been instrumental in driving this transformative project forward, showcasing the impact of collaboration under Mitrelli Group.
